The first book in the charming series is marvelous. It's heart-wrenching. I won't reveal the entire plot, but the story starts off with an orphaned girl who really wasn't supposed to be adopted.

Her life from that mistake though, is forever changed.

While some people mock this book for how Anne imagines things wildly, I highly suggest giving this book a chance. There's a reason why there are so many avid readers of this series.

This book propelled me into the life of the auburn-haired, orphan girl, Anne, as she finds a home with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert in rural Canada. My senses were treated to the sounds, sights, sensations and smells of the country as Anne explored her sweet, new life at Green Gables. While reading, I often felt as though I could reach out and touch the scenery and delve into the plot, forgetting my own circumstances for a brief while. I understand why this book has been the favorite of girls --and those who used to be girls :) -- through the ages. I heartily recommend this book.

Don't know if it's my sentimental attachment from growing up with the book and movie or if it's just a great book (probably equal parts of each factor), but I love Anne of Green Gables!

Anne's passions take her from the Pinnacles Of Joy to the Depths of Despair, but her ability to see goodness and beauty in almost anyone and everything around her is refreshing, as is her ability to see when she is being mean-spirited and try to correct it. It is a wonderful story, and I only wish they had the follow on volumes here in daily lit, so I could read those as well.

Every bit of this book was thrilling to read. It was so full of joy and imagination and happiness - even in the sad bits. I've seen the film many many times and could just picture the actors as I read their words and it just enhanced it for me so much. It brought me such joy to read this and I'm looking forward to reading all the books since my husband bought me the boxed set for Christmas. :)

This book warmed my heart! The characters were wonderful! Especially Anne. She had this great personality, and an amazing outlook on life. Her attitude about everything was good. Let her lead and charm you down the path of her life and she will make ANNE OF GREEN GABLES an unforgettable read.
