Pride and Prejudice - one of the finest
If I were to be stranded on a desert island with a limited number of books, this would definitely be on the list. IMHO, it's one of the finest novels ever written. I re-read it every year and enjoy it even more than when I first read it many years ago. And, joy of joys!, it has a happy ending. :)
Cory Doctorow - How about Little Brother?
I needed the LARPing explanations but I can see that they might be annoying to someone who already knows this stuff.
Finished the book a couple weeks ago, after reading it rather quickly - kept hitting the send next installment option. I don't think his premise is too farfetched and of course, that's why it was so scary. A great read.
Jane Austen - Pride and prejudice
One of my all time favorites. I read it almost every year and have 2 copies. So far neither has worn out :) It's great fun to watch Lizzie Bennett readjust her opinions.
Secret Adversary - Enjoyable main characters
Really enjoyed this, more due to the main characters/mystery solvers, Tommy and Tuppence, than the plot. It was fun to watch their relationship develop and "hear" their banter.
Little Brother - Makes me want to read more Doctorow
This book caught my attention right off and held it all the way through to the end, so much so that I caught myself frequently ordering up the next several installments immediately after I finished reading the scheduled installment.
It's a frightening tale of a Dept of Homeland Security run amok. I'm not very computer savvy so can't say anything about whether the computer parts are accurate for now or extrapolated for the future, but they seemed believable to me within the story. And I really cared about the characters. This was my first Doctorow book, but I'll be reading more.
