The Musgrave Ritual - Enjoyable Mystery But Too Short

Enjoyable Holmes-retelling rather than Watson-documenting. Good mystery, well told, but not really showing Holmes to be the genius that we believe him to be. And like most of the Holmes short stories it probably would have been better if it was a bit longer.

Pride and Prejudice - Too Bloody Reserved

I in general hated this book but loved it at the same time. I had been forced to watch the BBC mini series years ago so I couldn't get the actor's faces and way of presenting their characters out of my mind as I read so it may have influenced me in some way. I understand the title of the book but I still wanted to grab Darcy and slap him about a bit and tell him not to be such a nob.

King Solomon's Mines - Old-fashioned but exciting

Generally enjoyable novel which seemed very familiar probably because much of its plot and scenes have probably turned up in many other books and films since this was first published. Not as exciting as I'd hoped but almost a page turner.

The Importance of Being Earnest - Makes me want to see it

Witty, clever but full of coincidences though that's part of its charm. It's only a play transcript though but it really makes me want to see one of the many film versions or it live.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Opportunity Missed

I sometimes wonder if FSG should've gone a bit sci-fi with this and delved into the idea of the aged infant more. It seems the sort of story that shouldn't've been short.
