Title & Author of long prose poem?

In high school, a LONG time ago, I read a long poem (I think it was a sort of prose poem) about a Victorian (I think) house and the family that lived in it. I think it was American but that is all I recall. If that rings any bells with anyone I would appreciate them sharing the title and author with me.
