Book & Review Forums: Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom
Good ideas, good potential, but a let down.
Was looking forward to finally reading something by him. I really wanted to like this book. I thought the premise of no death, /. type karma, and an always connected world would lead to a great story. But I was wrong. It's not bad just not what I was expecting. Begins as a murder mystery but quickly forgotten by all except for the victim. The victim declares, he knows who did it with no evidence. There is no real investigation beyond some initial small time stuff so we are left to wonder. Needless to say Julius doesn't feel the same way yet he does nothing to prove his theory except to attempt sabotage. We also find out that doing stuff after you backed up is a great way to get away with murder. Yet that is never dealt with. Plus the whole smoking crack bit was worthless - advanced society and no one has synthesized a new drug? Will I try another book from C.D.? Yes I will after I read a few other things.
