Description
One of the most famous novels of the Victorian age and a fabulously juicy read to this day, Middlemarch is George Eliot's masterpiece. At the heart of the story are sisters Dorothea and Cecilia Brooke, who live in genteel poverty in an English country village. Though their parents are gone and the two siblings must rely on each other, they could not be less alike. The lofty-minded Dorothea loves to pore over books, while her impetuous, emotional sister prefers a bit more glamour in life. As the two young women come of age, their temperaments bring them their shares of joy and sorrow. Dorothea, seeking a life of noble thoughts and service, falls (to her family's dismay) for the dry intellectual Edward Casaubon. As Dorothea finds that her lot leaves much to be desired, other villagers enter the scene—the beautiful Rosamond Vincy, her ne'er-do-well brother Fred—and bring with them their respective romantic entanglements. Not until the very end do we learn whether the cast of this nineteenth-century soap opera ever finds happiness, or if their all-too-human shortcomings sabotage their dearest dreams.

Read this before you die!
This is probably the best novel you'll ever read. It's action-packed - but all the action is psychological, and it is described in great detail by Eliot, so that we know exactly what motivates the character to act in the way they do. The power of this novel is in its gradual unfolding of the personalities and thoughts of the people whose stories Eliot tells, and in the gentle yet relentless increase in drama and tension, until the final climax when all is resolved. If you haven't read this, make it the next on your list.

Provincial life
This is a long novel. It was taught to us in last year in University.A host of characters are present and actions of people of all walk are recorded artistically by Eliot(Mary Ann).In Victorian era there were conventional views about Womanhood.Dorothea's aim's could only be fullfilled after her marriage which proved fake with Causabon.Lydgate and Dorothea were ,somewhat, similar figures.Social stubborness, unhappy marriages, women's role in society ,relatins between Evengelicals ans Anglicans are core issues of the novel.Psychological analysis of differet characters and clear eye view of human nature is speciality of this beautful novel.
